After a talk I had in the Imperial Knights vent channel last night, I decided to create a 4Story-related IRC channel on Freenode.
What is IRC?
IRC stands for "Internet Relay Chat". It's a kind of specialized chat room server. There are literally tens of thousands of IRC channels on IRC servers around the globe.
If you already have an IRC chat client, just point it at "chat.freenode.net".
Then /join ##4Story (the ## is necessary).
If you don't have an IRC chat client, I recommend XChat.
XChat can be gotten at http://xchat.org
If that window doesn't open, or you are not taken to the 4Story channel once you connect to FreeNode...
Type: /join ##4Story
If your name is taken or not accepted, just try to select another one as close to your main character's in-game name as possible. Maybe stick "Craxion" or "Defugel" onto the end of your name.
Anyway, I think an IRC channel will be a useful addition to the resources available. There are clients for all OSes (including some cell phones), it can be accessed from anywhere, and hopefully I can get some of the GMs to join, in which case they can be available for live, immediate communication. Especially if they'll accept operator responsibility.
Everyone will be expected to be civil in their conversations. Just because there isn't the same language filter as in the game doesn't mean anything goes.
If anyone decides to add their own channel to FreeNode, I Strongly, Strongly recommend using the ##4Story in the channel name. For example: ##4Story-Pride or ##4Story-ReBorn, for guild-specific channels. These channels can be made private to guild members, whereas I want to keep ##4Story open to all players on the global server.
Oh, one last thing... this channel will be English-only. Nobody will blame anyone for not speaking English well, but I, and others, don't want to see the channel lost in unreadable spam. There are other IRC channels for the other versions of 4Story which support other languages.
